Starlight - Maison evergreen
Early in 2024, one of my good friends reached out to me about helping them with a music video for their music persona - Maison Evergreen. The Maison Evergreen lore is quite extensive, and with this video it got even deeper. This was their first full length animated music video, for their first full album, and every single thing in it has meaning.
In this video we meet some integral characters: The Green Captain, a deep and mysterious soul connected to a spacesuit. And Tintin, an inhabitant of the Monomono civilization and protector of the Nexus Ember. Together they embark on an adventure to locate the Nexus Ember and reawaken a planet frozen in time by cosmic demise thousands of years prior.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
The process for this video was not unlike any other. I was lucky to have a friend with an incredible imagination and a simply wonderful story. I was sent a very long draft of what the video narrative was, and I had to somehow transform it into a video. I spent countless hours working on the story - imagining, drawing, redrawing, making boardomatics, redrawing some more, and so on. Eventually this is where we landed:
Part 1:
The Green Captain, leader of Maison Evergreen, detects a cosmic irregularity from a mysterious planet using their Starseeker. Upon arrival, the Captain finds the planet uninhabited and covered in Echo Stones, suspended in time.
Part 2 -4:
Deciphering a mysterious language called "Monomono" on the stones, the Captain locates and frees a small robot named TinTin, who reveals that the planet was once filled with life.
Part 5:
TinTin guides the Captain to the Nexus Ember, an ancient celestial seed capable of restoring life to dormant worlds. With TinTin's help, the Captain harnesses the Ember's energy to free the planet's stone-encased inhabitants.
Part 6:
Together, they look to the Starseeker for their next destination ☆☆
PROCESS -
FINAL RESULTS
After storyboarding, the real fun began. With a little bit of help from a couple friends of mine, I created and animated almost 40 shots from start to finish. It was the biggest after hours project I have ever taken on, and I am quite proud of how it turned out. Below I chose a few of my favorite shots from some of the sections.
Part 1: Finding Crystal Planet
Part 4: Tintin’s Tale
Part 5: Locating Nexus Ember
Part 5: Planting Nexus Ember
Part 6: Reawakening The Planet
Part 6: Off to Their Next Adventure
